Halloween in Japan 2021 (and all around your world)

Japan’s Kawasaki Halloween Parade

Around the the world, Halloween is generally for kids. Not true in Japan, where Halloween celebrations have a decidedly adult overtone. There’s no trick-or-treating, but there’s plenty of cosplay and plenty of parties. Halloween celebrations have already caused chaos in Tokyo this year, and the day itself hasn’t even arrived yet.

The most prestigious Halloween event in Japan is the Kawasaki Halloween Parade, featuring around 4,000 costumed revellers. You can’t just throw on any old thing and attend, however. They have standards, and participants must apply at least two months in advance to join the festivities.

We love this dedication here at Fancy-Pants but there’s a lot to be said for low-key too. We of course adore the huge feathery bespectacled and dramatic displays at Halloween with full sfx make-up, nails, blood, lenses and any other finishing touch to make you all look fabulous – all of which we can provide of course – but if it’s just a witches hat and cauldron you’re after – we have those too! Let’s strip that pumpkin patch clean, carve some genius displays and spook our way through this magnificent Halloween season.

How do you celebrate your Mother on Mother’s Day?

“A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend.” — Unknown

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and showing our mums just how much we love them is top of our list. There are so many ways to show our gratitude — perhaps a thoughtful gift and message is your go to?   We have plenty of those for you to browse through of course, but we thought we would share some great ideas about how we can all show some serious love for our mums this Mother’s Day.

Offer to be her chauffeur for a day,.  For all the times she drove you around, help her tick off those errands and maybe stop for a coffee along the way – from 8 March under Covid 19 rules we are allowed to do just that.   Just sitting, chatting, and listening to her, for all those times she listened to you and helped you straighten things out.

From 29 March we can spend time together again outdoors, with up to six people from up to six different households, so why not organise a get together for her and her friends for all the times she hosted yours.

Clean her house!  Let’s face it, our mums have cleaned up after us countless times and who really likes cleaning anyway.

Fingers crossed from 12 April all beauty salons will be allowed to re-open in the UK, so perhaps a voucher, treating her to a relaxing facial, massage or manicure at her favourite spa is just the ticket, for all those times you stressed her out –  our teen years must have been tough!

Carry on her family traditions to show her how much they mean to you, send photos of you doing the things she taught you to show you listened, or just write a letter so she can constantly be reminded of how much you appreciate her.

Whatever you do and wherever your love for your ‘mum’ takes you we wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day 2021, perhaps our little store has helped in some way, if so, we thank you from the bottom of our big family heart for shopping small and local.  Remember though:

“To the world, you are a mother, but to your family, you are the world.” — Unknown

In the Mood for Love…..

Everybody knows February is the month for love and we are giving you all the feels with (in our opinion) the most swoon-worthy quote for your perfect Valentine’s Day date.   It’s been fun trawling through our favourite sites and it’s not been easy finding ‘the one’ – there are so many funny, moving, romantic, traditional stories and quotes, both cheeky and traditional.  Whatever your love outlook, we all agreed ‘less is indeed more’  – so (drum roll please) our all time winner for sheer simplicity is:

‘Where there is love, there is life’ – Mahatma Gandhi

In the last few months we’ve all seen and shown love in many different ways.  Our love for the NHS with rainbows, the inspiring Captain Sir Tom Moore, our key workers keeping our cupboards and shelves stocked and deliveries met, home-schooling our children and missing our teachers and scholars.  Last but not least though, our fabulous Publicans, the institution of the good old fashioned pub.  The meeting place for all manner of celebrations with our nearest and dearest family and friends. Oh how we’ve missed you!!  Well this Valentine’s day might be a little different, but as the saying goes ‘home is where the heart is’, so with this in mind we wish you all a fabulously HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY 2021.  May all our homes be filled with love and hugs – until we can freely wrap our arms around each other again.

It’s not too late for us here at H.O.P.E to deliver your perfect Valentines gift and personalised card to your loved one.  Drop us a note on checkout and we will help you spread the love!
