Halloween in Japan 2021 (and all around your world)

Japan’s Kawasaki Halloween Parade

Around the the world, Halloween is generally for kids. Not true in Japan, where Halloween celebrations have a decidedly adult overtone. There’s no trick-or-treating, but there’s plenty of cosplay and plenty of parties. Halloween celebrations have already caused chaos in Tokyo this year, and the day itself hasn’t even arrived yet.

The most prestigious Halloween event in Japan is the Kawasaki Halloween Parade, featuring around 4,000 costumed revellers. You can’t just throw on any old thing and attend, however. They have standards, and participants must apply at least two months in advance to join the festivities.

We love this dedication here at Fancy-Pants but there’s a lot to be said for low-key too. We of course adore the huge feathery bespectacled and dramatic displays at Halloween with full sfx make-up, nails, blood, lenses and any other finishing touch to make you all look fabulous – all of which we can provide of course – but if it’s just a witches hat and cauldron you’re after – we have those too! Let’s strip that pumpkin patch clean, carve some genius displays and spook our way through this magnificent Halloween season.

Use code WELCOME10 at checkout for 10% discount off your first order online – or call us for a bulk discount if you’re buying for a group. The bigger the order the bigger the discount. And it’s free next day delivery within 15 miles of CW1 5UP, UK.

How do you celebrate your Mother on Mother’s Day?

“A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend.” — Unknown

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and showing our mums just how much we love them is top of our list. There are so many ways to show our gratitude — perhaps a thoughtful gift and message is your go to?   We have plenty of those for you to browse through of course, but we thought we would share some great ideas about how we can all show some serious love for our mums this Mother’s Day.

Offer to be her chauffeur for a day,.  For all the times she drove you around, help her tick off those errands and maybe stop for a coffee along the way – from 8 March under Covid 19 rules we are allowed to do just that.   Just sitting, chatting, and listening to her, for all those times she listened to you and helped you straighten things out.

From 29 March we can spend time together again outdoors, with up to six people from up to six different households, so why not organise a get together for her and her friends for all the times she hosted yours.

Clean her house!  Let’s face it, our mums have cleaned up after us countless times and who really likes cleaning anyway.

Fingers crossed from 12 April all beauty salons will be allowed to re-open in the UK, so perhaps a voucher, treating her to a relaxing facial, massage or manicure at her favourite spa is just the ticket, for all those times you stressed her out –  our teen years must have been tough!

Carry on her family traditions to show her how much they mean to you, send photos of you doing the things she taught you to show you listened, or just write a letter so she can constantly be reminded of how much you appreciate her.

Whatever you do and wherever your love for your ‘mum’ takes you we wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day 2021, perhaps our little store has helped in some way, if so, we thank you from the bottom of our big family heart for shopping small and local.  Remember though:

“To the world, you are a mother, but to your family, you are the world.” — Unknown

In the Mood for Love…..

Everybody knows February is the month for love and we are giving you all the feels with (in our opinion) the most swoon-worthy quote for your perfect Valentine’s Day date.   It’s been fun trawling through our favourite sites and it’s not been easy finding ‘the one’ – there are so many funny, moving, romantic, traditional stories and quotes, both cheeky and traditional.  Whatever your love outlook, we all agreed ‘less is indeed more’  – so (drum roll please) our all time winner for sheer simplicity is:

‘Where there is love, there is life’ – Mahatma Gandhi

In the last few months we’ve all seen and shown love in many different ways.  Our love for the NHS with rainbows, the inspiring Captain Sir Tom Moore, our key workers keeping our cupboards and shelves stocked and deliveries met, home-schooling our children and missing our teachers and scholars.  Last but not least though, our fabulous Publicans, the institution of the good old fashioned pub.  The meeting place for all manner of celebrations with our nearest and dearest family and friends. Oh how we’ve missed you!!  Well this Valentine’s day might be a little different, but as the saying goes ‘home is where the heart is’, so with this in mind we wish you all a fabulously HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY 2021.  May all our homes be filled with love and hugs – until we can freely wrap our arms around each other again.

It’s not too late for us here at H.O.P.E to deliver your perfect Valentines gift and personalised card to your loved one.  Drop us a note on checkout and we will help you spread the love!

Halloween ‘2020’

And so, it’s rapidly approaching that time when tricks and treats become tricks or treats – HALLOWEEN!

We have everything to make your night go with a screeeeeeeeeeam! If it’s a bit of fake blood you’re after then we are dripping in it. Zombies? It’s like the night of the living dead round here we have so many costumes and accessories – little zombies or big zombies we’ve got them all. We’ve bats and rats, witches and devils and of course those old Halloween favourite’s, Ghosts and Ghoulies!

It’s going to be a different Halloween this year so let’s make it that little bit more special, from a bit of make up to a complete make over we’ve got the lot.

Lockdown Update and Rhythm Time

It’s incredible to think that we’ve all been in lock-down for over six weeks now and we send you and your loved ones our warmest wishes. We warmly invite customers to keep in touch through our social media channels, www.facebook.com/H.O.P.ERetail, www.instagram.com/h.o.p.e_retail. We’d love to see or hear what you’ve been up to. Although we feel we’ve got a rather substantial ‘dressing-up box’ here at Fancy-Pants, we love seeing your homemade creations and themes, so tag away folks.

Through our blog and social media we have shared with you some of the delights of our newest products in our gift and homeware collections, but we’re most excited about our ever evolving fancy dress, accessories and vintage range.

We’ve had great fun supporting Rhythm Time (Cheshire) too. They have taken their pre-school music classes online and every Tuesday morning Frances has done a live video stream. Not wearing her statement Rhythm Time sunshine yellow t-shirt though, oh no, in fancy dress costume of course! Each week Frances has been modelling one of our costumes to delight her students while delivering Birthday messages. This week we were greeted by Alice in Wonderland classic, ‘The Queen of Hearts’, who was absolutely not going to share her tarts! It’s anyone’s guess what she’ll wear next week?

If there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see Frances try, any special Birthday requests perhaps, or you’d like to know more about our costumes, drop us an e-mail to wi**@ho********.uk.

We do not know when we’ll be reopening our doors, but our online store is still operating. We have extended our discount code HOPE5 until at least the end of May 2020. We continue to offer free delivery within our local ST7 postcode for orders over £15 and a 100% non-contact click and collect service too. We are mindful of all government guidelines and can guarantee we are following all recommended measures to ensure our customers safety comes first.

For now though, we wish you all well and look forward to seeing you again very soon we hope.

Coronavirus Update

We know and understand it’s not the easiest of times for any of us, particularly the older and more vulnerable members of our community. To make things a little easier and to keep up with events, (our daughter ‘Hope’ turned 18 on Monday 23 March and we too had to change our own plans of course, with family and friends) we are offering a FREE NON-CONTACT DELIVERY to ST7 residents of our entire range of gifts, cards, handbags, jewellery and interior styling – all unique and all exclusive to us here at H.O.P.E, applicable on all purchases of £15 and above.

Sending love and health to our wonderful customers, new and old, throughout South Cheshire and North Staffordshire.

February Update

And relax…… we’ve had a very exciting month! After chancing across our most beautiful listed building in December, whilst attending one of our many frost fairs, we have finally opened our new store in Leek.  Known locally as ‘The Queen of the Moorlands’ Leek is the prettiest town with a thriving market, artisan shops and is absolutely bursting with independent retailers.  It wasn’t a difficult decision to settle here.

The  #totallylocallyleek market is held on the first Sunday of the month and it is inspiring to see so many local traders selling their wares.    The #foxloweartscentre (one of our neighbours) is also open on market days, with its coffee shop and the #foxandcrow gallery.  If you haven’t visited Leek recently, it’s well worth a visit to the town… do pop in to see us, we love a good chinwag!

January Update

2020 – how quick has that come around?? It seems like only yesterday we were all worrying about the Millennium Virus!

Well it’s here and January is as busy as busy can be with so much going on! This year Burns Night and Chinese New Year both happen on the same night, 25th January – oh what a party that will be.  Naturally, we have costumes for both occasions. For Burns Night we have kilts aplenty http://www.hoperetail.co.uk/?s=scotland and for Chinese New Year (2020 is The Year of the Rat) how about a little sashay to China town in one of these http://www.hoperetail.co.uk/?s=chinese

Can’t wait to see you very soon, until then Happy New Year 2020, or should we say Gong Xi Fa Cai…..
